The Story of Mariner Medical Center

Mariner Medical Center opened its doors in 1984, in the area then known as Fashion Island. The Center had three exam rooms, one doctor, one nurse and a receptionist at the start. Until 1992 the Center stayed in this modest facility while serving the Foster City residential and business communities that were growing handsomely each year. Managed care was in its infancy.

In 1995 MMC relocated to Foster City in a space that was several times the size of the original facility. During the growth that followed, Mariner Medical Center added a number of outstanding board certified physicians, which enhanced its already excellent reputation. With 7 exam rooms, x-ray services, an emergency care area as well as a dedicated nursing and support staff, Mariner Medical Center took its place as the premier primary and urgent care facility in Foster City.

After 12 years of exemplary service to the community, and a continually growing patient base, it became clear in 2006 that the Medical Center's growth had far exceeded its space. Expansion was required to continue to provide the excellent care the community had become accustomed to at Mariner Medical. The result is a beautiful and much larger premium space at 1241 East Hillsdale Blvd., and an increased staff of primary, urgent care doctors including specialists brought in to serve a broader geographical region and number of patients.

Since the beginning of 2007 Mariner Medical Center, with this move, now has many more exam rooms and waiting rooms. A collaboration with San Mateo Medical Center opening a new specialty clinic has been implemented. The result is a true multi-specialty group practice to serve the expanded healthcare needs of the areas' population.
